In-Depth Project
Folk Art/ Outsider Art
This was the object I based it on. My Aunt from Cuba pass it on and my great uncle made it out of tree wood. It inspired me to do my research on Cuban culture.
In the bottom section of my piece, it represents the camp cubans used to live in how most of their materials was tree wood and livestock. Also decided to incorporate the famous beer, the cigar and the wine cup from the trinket that was past down through my family. The top section shows some quotes that connect to the taste of Cuba, to the freedom that they don't have, and how vivid and happy Cuba used to be. The colorful paint splattered is representing how beautiful Cuba is and how the women in Cuba used to dress. The Pop-up sticker represents the beautiful palm trees and beaches Cuba has, its paradise like. The Bongos represent the music, the coffee is a big part of cuban culture and the flag showing as its own country. I really enjoyed Critique today, it was a great experience and I also enjoyed the project as a whole because I experimented with a few mediums I have never thought of before.
