Just like they say Art is everywhere so is pattern and ornament. Pattern has been made since before the 1st century which is pretty cool. It has culture, history, language and meaning, it could be decorative or formal. It is on furniture, buildings, fabric, walls, metals, pretty much everywhere its amazing. It could be made up of shapes, colors, random symbols, letters and many mediums. From my interpretation like the reading says Pattern and Ornament helps us cope with complexity and its built in our brain organization/process.
In the exhibition thats mentioned in the reading shows 6 themes. The 6 themes are Amplification, The-Everyday, Kit-of-Parts, Elaboration, Inheritances and Fantasy. Amplification is to show the meaning or express an explanation. The-Everyday is the aspects of our daily lives. Kit-of-Parts are playful, you can take them apart and/or put them back together. Elaboration is to extend either the design or the meaning of it. Inheritances is from past historical or cultural inspired designs, traditions.
Fantasy is whatever you want, free play of our creativity or imagination. I enjoyed reading this article because it has inspired me very much with my small works.
