Reading 2 "The Outsider Art Fair"

Jerry Saltz on the“Outsider Art Fair — and Why There’s No Such Thing As ‘Outsider’ Art”

I am glad they moved that place and remodeled it, its always good to have a change. I learned in this reading that there have been no great women artists because they had to be trained in a academy. Back then women weren't allowed into academies because they were considered to be pure to look at the nude, I find that ridiculous and unfair. I also can not believe that many museums follow that old patriotic belief. Even outsiders  should have a chance to show what they've got and become great.

I am ecstatic that they have an Outsider Art Fair for these people, because that is just not right. What if they didn't have money or they feel they already know pretty much just enough to become a great artist. I love seeing new artists and seeing what they can do even if they didn't go to school. There should be no reason to judge them, they can be just as good as someone who did go to school and studied. In this reading I have already discovered new artists I have never heard before.
